About Blessing Ceremonies (Unification Church)
The Unification Church, founded by Sun Myung Moon, holds a ceremony called the Blessing, in which couples, many of them matched by the leader or by elders, are married or renew vows together. The best known were held in Seoul in 1988 and 1992, with thousands of couples, and in Madison Square Garden in 1982. The couples often come from different nations to promote unity. The church has been criticised for how couples were matched, and some former members describe pressure. The movement now holds the ceremony in different places, with no single annual date.
