Sources and photo credits

EveryShaadi stands on the work of volunteers who document the world's marriage customs in the open.

Facts

Wikidata (public domain, CC0) and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every tradition page and country overview links to the article and the record it was written from. The list of holidays on a date comes from Wikimedia's on-this-day feed.

Wording and attribution

EveryShaadi does not copy text. Pages take their facts from the Wikipedia article named at the foot of each page and are rewritten in EveryShaadi's own words. A check compares each page with its source; any page that carries over more than a short phrase is rewritten before it is shown. Because the pages are adapted from Wikipedia, they credit the article and its contributors, link to the original, and are shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.

Photos

All photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Only freely licensed images are used: public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA. Each photo on a tradition page is credited beside it with its author and licence and links to its page on Commons. Small pictures in lists, cards and strips are credited at the foot of the page they appear on, under "Photo credits on this page". Photos may be resized; no other changes are made. If a photo is yours and should not be here, write to us and it will be taken down.

Drawings

The patterns that stand in for a photo are drawn by EveryShaadi's own code from the kind of custom and its region: the same name always gives the same pattern. They are patterns, not pictures of a particular wedding or person, and they are free to reuse with a link back. No AI image generator is used.

Good reading

The articles listed under "Good reading and sources" on a wedding tradition page are ones its Wikipedia article cites, from publishers and institutions such as Britannica, national museums, heritage bodies and the press. EveryShaadi shows the headline and the publisher and links to the original; it does not copy the article.

Calendar, which day to marry, concepts, cities and glossary

Original text by the EveryShaadi desk, written with AI assistance. Dates of wedding days are worked out by rule where one exists (fixed dates, Easter, nth weekday, Hebrew, Islamic, Hindu, Chinese, Persian and Ethiopian calendars) and otherwise taken from published calendars; days that follow the moon or a local calendar are marked "about" and can shift by a day.

Map

Country outlines are from Natural Earth (public domain). Cities are marked at their middle.

News

The news wire shows only a headline and the outlet's name. Every link leads to the original publisher.
