Also: palm wine carrying, Igbo wine carrying
Igba nkwu, wine carrying, is the central rite of an Igbo traditional wedding in south-eastern Nigeria. After the bride price talks, kola nuts are shared and prayed over, and the bride, carrying a cup of palm wine, walks among the guests to find her groom. She kneels and gives him the wine, he drinks a little and then he puts money into the cup, and he gives it back to her to drink, which shows the choice is hers. Different Igbo towns vary the detail.
