Also: kenten, wedding cloth of Ghana
Kente is a handwoven cloth made of narrow strips sewn edge to edge, from the Asante and the Ewe of Ghana. Each pattern has a name and colours with meanings, and in the past it was kept for royalty. At weddings the couple and families often wear matching kente, the groom draped in a wrapped cloth and the bride in kaba and slit or a wrapped skirt. Other wedding cloths of Africa include Malian bogolan, Nigerian aso oke and Kuba raffia cloth.
