Milka is the word in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and parts of the Gulf for the legal signing of the marriage contract, before the wedding celebration, and it may take place long before. The couple are considered married by the contract, though they may not live together until the wedding, and so have a period of getting to know each other. Spellings in English vary, including milcha and malcha. The practice and the name differ between the Gulf states.
