Also: ceremonial basket, Dine wedding basket
In a traditional Navajo, or Diné, wedding, a ceremonial basket woven with a pattern of a spiral and a break in the design is used to hold a mush of blue cornmeal. The couple, guided by a medicine person, take turns eating from the mush, in a set order, and often the family shares. The basket's design is often described as showing the path of life, and the break in the pattern as an opening. The wedding blessing, with the groom's and bride's families and a dinner, is described differently by different communities, and sources should be those of Navajo people themselves.
