Pka sla
The Cambodian wedding in which the couple are blessed with a flower of the areca palm.
Also: phka sla, areca flower ceremony, Khmer wedding
Pka sla, the areca flower, is the name used for the central ceremony of a Khmer wedding and for the flower of the areca palm carried in the procession. A traditional Khmer wedding is spread over days and has a long sequence of rites: the arrival of the groom's procession, blessing by a monk or elder, the cutting of hair in a symbolic fashion, called kat sak, the tying of cotton threads on the couple's wrists, and a final washing of the feet. Dress changes happen many times in the day, and names and order vary by region and family.
