Rehearsal dinner
A dinner held the evening before an American wedding, after the practice of the ceremony.
Also: rehearsal
The rehearsal dinner is a custom of the United States and Canada, in which the wedding party and close family meet the night before the wedding, after the run-through in the church or venue, for a meal and toasts. Traditionally the groom's parents host it, and the guests are the wedding party, parents, officiant and often out-of-town relatives. Gifts to the wedding party are given there, and the speeches are often lighter than those on the day. The custom has spread to other countries with American influence.
