Spraying money is the practice of guests sticking banknotes on the foreheads of dancers or throwing them over the couple and family as a gift and a mark of joy. It is common at Nigerian weddings and parties, and the money is often collected by helpers for the couple. Nigeria's central bank has said it is an offence under its currency laws to spray or mishandle naira notes, and fines are possible, though the practice continues. Many families now use envelopes or pay by transfer instead.
