About Safar
In Pakistan, India and Bangladesh some families do not hold weddings in Safar, the month after Muharram, because of an old folk belief that it brings misfortune. Scholars point out that the belief comes from pre-Islamic practice and that the Prophet is reported to have taught that there is no bad omen in the month. The last Wednesday of Safar is also considered ill-starred in Iran and South Asia. Customs vary, and many families marry in it without a thought.
