About Tulsi Vivah
Tulsi Vivah is a household and temple ritual in which the sacred basil is married to a stone of Vishnu, Shaligram, or to a form of Krishna. The plant is dressed in a red sari, bangles and a bindi, decorated with a canopy of sugarcane, and a wedding procession and songs follow. Families who have no daughter often perform it as kanyadaan, giving a bride away. Many treat it as the official opening of the Hindu wedding season, and some community weddings begin the same evening. It is kept in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Nepal.
