Aina Mushaf
The Afghan wedding rite in which the couple look into a mirror under a shawl, with a Quran.
Also: aeineh masshaf, ayna masaf, mirror and Quran
In the aina mushaf, aina meaning mirror and mushaf the Quran, the bride and groom sit side by side under a shawl or veil held over them, with a mirror and a copy of the Quran before them. They look into the mirror together, and so see each other's faces for the first time after the nikah. Sweets, usually sugar-coated almonds, are rubbed together over their heads. It is a custom of Afghan and some Central Asian weddings, and the spelling varies widely in English.
