Shirini khori
The Afghan and Persian eating of sweets that seals a betrothal.
Also: shireeni khori, shirini-khori, shirni khori
Shirini khori, eating sweets, is the engagement rite of Afghan and Iranian families: after the elders agree on a match, the boy's family brings trays of sweets, dried fruit and sugared almonds to the girl's home, and the families eat together. In Afghan households this follows the khastgari, the formal asking. The sweets are meant to sweeten the match, and the date of the nikah is often fixed at the meeting. Spelling varies as shirini khori, shireeni khori and shirni khori.
