Baleh boran
The Persian engagement in which the families say yes, with sweets and flowers.
Also: baleh borun, baleh baran, baleh boroon
Baleh boran, cutting the yes, is the Persian engagement. The families agree the match, and the groom's family brings flowers, sweets, a ring and gifts, and with the bride's family sets the amount of the mehrieh and the wedding date. In some regions the boy's family cuts a sugar cone as a sign of the agreement. The English spelling varies, including baleh borun and baleh baran. In recent decades, some families merge it with the khastegari or the shirini khori.
