Busta
The envelope of money that Italian wedding guests give the couple instead of a gift list.
Also: la busta, busta (Italian)
La busta, the envelope, is the Italian custom in which guests give the couple a card with money, sometimes placed in a box or basket at the wedding. The amount is guided by what the guest's place and meal are thought to cost, and by the guest's closeness to the family. In some regions, such as Sicily and Campania, the couple may also dance with guests who pin money to the dress, in the tradition of the tarantella. Couples may use the money for the wedding costs or the honeymoon.
