Ceilidh
A Scottish or Irish social evening of country dancing, a common way to end a wedding.
Also: ceili, cèilidh
A ceilidh is a social gathering with Gaelic roots, with live music, usually fiddle, accordion and drums, and dances in couples or sets, called by a caller who teaches each dance. At a Scottish or Irish wedding it often follows the meal, and all ages join in, with dances such as the Gay Gordons, the Strip the Willow and the Dashing White Sergeant. The first dance of the couple may be a waltz, and then the floor opens to the guests. The Irish spelling is ceili.
