Chuang men, literally crashing the door, is a game in which the bride's friends keep the groom and his groomsmen outside the bedroom or the house door and make them pass tests before they are let in: eating something very sour or spicy, answering questions about the bride, doing push-ups, or paying with red envelopes. It is a custom of many parts of China and the Chinese diaspora, and the amount and scale have grown in recent years, so that some families have asked guests to keep the pranks gentle. Another name is the door-blocking custom.
