Cuban wedding
A Cuban wedding, often a civil ceremony at a wedding palace, followed by a party with music and dancing.
Also: boda cubana
In Cuba a legal marriage is made in a civil ceremony, often at a palacio de matrimonios, a wedding palace, and some couples add a church service. The party that follows is large, with a cake, rum, dancing to son and salsa, and a pig roast if the family can afford it. The bride often wears white, and there is a custom of the bridal waltz. Cuba's Family Code, approved by referendum in September 2022, opened marriage to same-sex couples. Costs and shortages shape what families can do, and many rely on relatives abroad.
