Dawet
The Kurdish wedding, a days-long feast of dancing, drums and shared food.
Also: dawat, dawet, Kurdish wedding
Dawet, from the Arabic for invitation, is the word used by Kurdish speakers for a wedding party and also for the invitation to it. A Kurdish wedding in Iraq, Turkey, Syria or Iran can run for several days, with the community, a davul and zurna band and long lines of dancers. The bride wears a gown, often a bright, layered one, and the groom's family is received with songs and food. Customs differ among regions and among Kurdish-speaking groups, and families blend Kurdish and national customs.
