Also: ham-jin-abi, ham jin aebi, ham bearer
The hamjinabi, also seen as ham-jin-aebi, is the man who carries the ham, the gift box of the Korean wedding, to the bride's house on the eve of the wedding. Traditionally the friend of the groom, with his face blackened with soot or covered with a dried-fish mask, announces the box, and the bride's family bargains with him. It is a playful, noisy rite, a mark of the groom's family reaching the bride's door. The word's romanisation varies.
