Kavor
The Armenian best man or wedding sponsor, a role of trust usually kept for life.
Also: kavor, godfather, Armenian best man
The kavor is the Armenian wedding sponsor and best man, chosen by the groom's family, who holds the crowns over the heads of the couple in the church ceremony of the Armenian Apostolic Church and often becomes the godfather of their children. The role is one of great respect and may be kept in a family for generations. Elsewhere in Armenian custom, the couple have lavash bread laid on their shoulders to wish them plenty, and a plate is broken for luck.
