Lagan
The Parsi wedding, and the written list of the guests and ceremonies of a Zoroastrian marriage.
Also: lagna, Zoroastrian wedding, Parsi lagan
Lagan is the Parsi (Indian Zoroastrian) word for a wedding. The ceremony has two parts: the achu michu welcoming rite at the door, and the ashirvad, a blessing by two priests, with the couple seated facing each other across a cloth, the antarpat, held between them. Rice is thrown on the couple, and the priests recite the Avestan blessings and, in the Gujarati language, the vows. Afterwards the guests sit for a feast served on banana leaves, called lagan nu bhonu, with dishes such as lagan nu custard and patra ni machhi. Lagan is also used for the day the wedding is set.
