Mameru
The gifts of the bride's or groom's maternal uncle, a custom in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Also: mosalu, maternal uncle gifts, mama
In Gujarati and Rajasthani weddings the mother's brother, the mama, carries a special role. In the mameru, his family brings clothes, jewellery, sweets and often the sari or bangles for the bride to the wedding, in a procession. In Gujarat the word is mameru and in Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat mosalu. It is a sign that the mother's family stands behind the match, and the gifts are displayed to the guests.
