Baraat
The groom's wedding procession, with drums, dancing and often a white horse.
Also: barat, baraati, groom procession
The baraat is the arrival of the groom's party at the wedding venue. In North India and Pakistan the groom rides a decorated mare, called ghodi, or an elephant or car, led by a band, a dhol player and relatives dancing in the road. The baraatis, the guests of the groom, are met at the gate by the bride's family in the ceremony of milni. A baraat can block a street for an hour, and in recent years many wedding venues have set time limits on it.
