Also: sofreh-ye aghd, sofreh aqd, Persian wedding spread
The sofreh aghd is a cloth spread on the floor, set with symbolic items, at which the couple sit during the aghd. These include a mirror and two candelabra for light and the future, a tray of seven herbs and spices, bread decorated with calligraphy, a bowl of coins, eggs and almonds for fertility, sugar cones to be rubbed over the couple, a Quran or other book, and sweet pastries. A scarf of silk is held above the couple, and women grind sugar over it. Families make the sofreh with great care and may pass items down.
