Toi
The large feast of a Central Asian wedding, with hundreds of guests.
Also: tui, tuy, toy, wedding feast
Toi, also spelled tui or toy, is a word of Turkic origin for a feast and in Central Asia stands for a wedding celebration. A toi in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan or Uzbekistan can have several hundred guests, with plov or beshbarmak, a toastmaster, music and dancing. Guests give money and cloth. In Uzbekistan the law has set limits on the number of guests and on the cost of weddings, to ease the burden on families. Many families hold several tois, one at the bride's and one at the groom's home.
