Walima
The wedding feast given by the groom's family after the marriage is consummated.
Also: waleemah, walimah, valima
The walima is a feast hosted by the groom's family after the wedding, and it is regarded in Islamic tradition as a sunnah, an act the Prophet practised. In South Asia, it is held the day after the nikah and rukhsati, while in much of the Arab world it can be the main wedding reception. Relatives, neighbours and the poor are invited, and the food is generous but should not be wasteful. Spelling varies as walima, waleemah, walimah and valima.
