Wedding breakfast
The British name for the meal after the wedding ceremony, whatever the time of day.
Also: wedding meal
The wedding breakfast is the formal meal for the guests after a wedding in Britain, Ireland and the Commonwealth, even if it is served at lunchtime or in the evening. The name comes from the time when weddings were held in the morning, and the meal was the first one after a fast. It is where the speeches, from the father of the bride, the groom and the best man, and the cutting of the cake take place. Guests are seated at tables, and the couple sit at the top table with the parents and attendants.
