About The Dormition Fast
The fast of the Dormition runs from 1 August to 14 August, ending with the feast of the Falling Asleep of the Virgin Mary on 15 August. Orthodox weddings are not held in it, and in Greece the days after the feast, when villages and islands fill with visitors, are a busy time. The Greek summer wedding season in July and late August is shaped by it.
