About Turkey, the summer wedding season
Turkish weddings, dugun, are held mostly from May to September, when villages and towns can hold a feast outdoors, and weddings are rare in Ramadan. A dugun may last a day or three, with the henna night, kina gecesi, the fetching of the bride, and a long evening of halay dances. Many couples register at the civil office, the nikah, first, and the party follows on the weekend. In eastern Turkey and among Kurdish families the autumn harvest also gives its dates.
