About Vasant Panchami as a wedding date
Vasant Panchami falls on the fifth day of the bright half of Magha, in late January or February, and welcomes spring with yellow clothes and prayers to Saraswati. In many families it is counted among the abujh muhurat, days that need no separate calculation, so weddings, engagements and a child's first letters are all fixed for it. In Bengal and Bangladesh the same day is Saraswati Puja. The date moves with the moon by a day or so.
