Traditional marriage in Hausa culture
The decorated bridal chair or platform on which the Moroccan bride is carried for the guests to see.
Also: amaria, amarya, Moroccan bridal chair, ammariya
The amariya is an ornamented seat, a litter or a cushioned chair, on which the bride is raised to shoulder height by four men, and carried around the guests at a Moroccan wedding. It is often a wooden throne with a cushion covered in brocade, on which the bride sits in a series of dresses while the crowd sings and claps. The bride is carried at several points in the evening, and the groom may also be lifted. The word is spelled amariya, amaria and amarya, and the practice is common in the cities, though in decline in some families.
