An chuang
The Chinese rite of preparing the marriage bed, with children rolling on it for luck.
Also: bed setting, making the bed
An chuang, setting the bed, is a pre-wedding custom of Chinese families in which a woman of good fortune, with living parents, a spouse and children, makes up the new couple's bed with red sheets and scatters it with red dates, peanuts, lotus seeds and longan. Small boys are asked to roll or jump on the bed for the wish for sons, though many families now invite any child. The words for the foods sound like wishes for children. The date and time of the rite is chosen as a lucky one.
