Dam ngo
The Vietnamese first formal visit, in which the groom's family asks the bride's family for the match.
Also: le dam ngo, Vietnamese proposal, le hoi
Dam ngo, or le dam ngo, is the first formal meeting of the families in a Vietnamese match, in which the groom's family visits the bride's home with gifts and sets out their wish for the marriage. It is followed in many families by the an hoi, the engagement, and then the le cuoi, the wedding day. The bride's family gives the groom's family a meal of tea and sweets, and the gifts are carried on red trays covered with red cloth. The practice is strongest in the north and varies with the region and family.
