Le vu quy

The Vietnamese ceremony at the bride's home before she leaves for her husband's.

Also: vu quy, bride leaving ceremony

Le vu quy, or simply vu quy, is the ceremony held at the bride's family home on the morning of a Vietnamese wedding, at which she bows to the ancestral altar, thanks her parents and receives their blessing before leaving with the groom's party. The bride wears an ao dai and the parents give gifts. The groom's side brings red-covered trays, and the two families exchange. A second celebration then takes place at the groom's house. The terms are common in the north and in the south.

Region: Southeast Asia
