Gaye holud, turmeric on the body, is the Bengali form of haldi, held at the homes of the bride and the groom the day before the wedding. Women smear turmeric paste on the couple. Each side sends gifts to the other, which in Bangladesh traditionally include a large decorated fish for the bride's house, sweets, fruit and clothes in yellow. The rite is often held with songs and dancing, and in Bangladesh has grown into a large party in its own right.
