Gift registry
A list of gifts chosen by the couple and shared with guests, or a request for money instead.
Also: wedding list, wedding registry
A gift registry, or wedding list in Britain, is a list of items chosen by the couple, often at a store, so that guests can buy what is needed without duplication. The custom grew in the United States in the 1920s and spread to Britain, Australia and elsewhere. Couples who already live together may ask for money, a honeymoon fund or a charity donation instead, and in many countries, such as Italy with the busta, money has always been the usual gift. Etiquette books suggest including the request on a separate card or website.
