Honeymoon
A holiday taken by the couple just after the wedding.
Also: wedding trip, bridal tour
The honeymoon is a trip or time away for the couple right after the wedding. The word is in English from the sixteenth century, and its origin is disputed. The wedding journey became popular in Britain and the United States in the nineteenth century, with the railways, and in many countries today a honeymoon abroad is a mark of a modern wedding. In earlier times and some places the couple spent the first days at home, in seclusion, or the bride went on a visit to her parents. Costs are often shared with gift money.
