Jing cha
The Chinese tea ceremony in which the couple serve tea to elders and receive blessings and red packets.
Also: jingcha, serving tea, tea ceremony
Jing cha, serving tea, is the part of a Chinese wedding in which the couple kneel or bow and offer cups of tea to their parents and older relatives in order of seniority, using the words for the family titles. The elders drink, give blessings and gifts, usually hongbao and jewellery. It is a formal welcome of the newcomer to the family. Dried red dates and lotus seeds are often put in the tea for sweetness and many children. The ceremony is most followed in Cantonese and Hokkien families and in the Chinese diaspora, and it is performed on the day of the wedding or the morning after.
