Qungkwa
The red and gold embroidered two-piece wedding dress of Cantonese brides.
Also: kwan kwa, kun kwa, Cantonese bridal gown
The qungkwa, also written kwan kwa or kwan kwa, is a two-piece Cantonese bridal outfit, a jacket and skirt, in red silk embroidered with gold dragons and phoenixes. It is worn for the tea ceremony and the wedding banquet, and is sometimes rented from specialist shops in Hong Kong and Guangdong. A matching headdress hung with beads and a veil of red beads is often worn. The spelling varies, and the garment is sometimes called a dragon and phoenix gown.
