Peruvian wedding
A Peruvian wedding with a civil ceremony, a church mass, a cake with ribbons, and the hora loca.
Also: boda peruana
Weddings in Peru commonly have a civil ceremony at the municipality, then a church wedding, and a reception with a wedding cake in which unmarried women pull ribbons, a waltz, and live music from a cumbia or salsa band. Guests are often given small gifts, and a hora loca, a time of costumes and noise, ends the night. Weddings in Andean villages follow their own customs, with Quechua or Aymara rites, and may last days. The Catholic arras and padrinos are also kept in many families.
