Rod nam sang
The Thai blessing in which guests pour water from a conch over the couple's joined hands.
Also: rot nam sang, water pouring ceremony, lang nam sang
In the rod nam sang, the couple kneel with their hands placed on a small table, the heads wrapped with a sai monkhon, a cord of white thread joined as a pair, and guests pour water over their hands from a conch shell, saying a blessing. Water is a symbol of purity and of blessing. Elders go first, and young friends join after. A monk may have chanted earlier in the day. The name is spelled in a variety of ways, among them rod nam sang, rot nam sang and lang nam sang.
