Sheva brachot
The seven blessings said over wine at a Jewish wedding, and at the festive meals of the week after.
Also: sheva berachot, seven blessings, shevah berakhot
Sheva brachot means the seven blessings. They are recited over a cup of wine under the chuppah after the ring, and cover creation, the joy of the couple, and the rebuilding of Jerusalem. They are said again, in an Orthodox custom, at the meals of the seven days following the wedding, as long as a new guest is present. Different guests are honoured with reading each. The words are Hebrew, and the transliteration varies: sheva brachot, sheva berachot and shevah berakhot.
