Siraman
The Javanese bridal bath with flower water, the day before the wedding.
Also: siraman ceremony, bridal bath, Javanese bath
Siraman is the ritual bath of a Javanese bride and groom, taken in their own homes the day before the wedding. Elders, beginning with the parents, pour water scented with flowers over the bride, who sits dressed in a plain cloth on a stool, and the water is collected from seven springs in some families. The bath is a purification before marriage. In many families the bride's mother breaks a clay jug at the end, and the bride is dried and made up. The name comes from the Javanese for to pour.
