A stag party, also stag night or stag do, is a gathering of the groom and his friends before the wedding, often organised by the best man. In Britain and Ireland it can be a weekend abroad, with sports, a meal and drinks; in North America the same event is called a bachelor party. The custom is recorded in English since the sixteenth century in various forms, though its modern shape is recent. Today many couples hold joint parties or simply a dinner.
