Junggesellenabschied
The German bachelor or bachelorette party, held before the wedding with friends in costume.
Also: JGA, Junggesellinnenabschied
Junggesellenabschied, literally a farewell to bachelorhood, is the German word for a stag or hen party, usually shortened to JGA. Friends of the groom or bride organise a day out in matching T-shirts or costumes, with tasks for the guest of honour, such as selling small items on the street, and drinks. It differs from the Polterabend, which is a gathering of both families and neighbours. The female version is sometimes called a Junggesellinnenabschied. It has become commonly a weekend trip.
