Tilosh

The Ethiopian wedding gathering at the bride's family home, held the day before or with the wedding.

A pattern drawn for this page, not a picture of Tilosh.

Also: tilosh (Ethiopian), tilosh

Tilosh is a name for a wedding event in Ethiopia, held in the bride's home or by her family, with friends, songs and the traditional ceremony of washing and dressing the bride. Ethiopian weddings can follow a church ceremony in the Orthodox tradition, with a crown for each partner, and a feast with injera and doro wat, and many couples hold a modern reception on top. Terms and the order of events differ between Amhara, Oromo, Tigrayan and urban families, so I would treat this entry as a general guide.

Region: Sub-Saharan Africa
