Vidaai
The farewell as the bride leaves her parents' home to go with her husband.
Also: vidai, bidai, vidaya, bidaay
Vidaai is the leave-taking at the end of a North Indian or Pakistani wedding. The bride throws handfuls of rice or coins over her shoulder, to repay her parents for what they have given her and to wish prosperity on the home, then walks to the car or palanquin, often in tears, as her brothers and cousins push it a few steps. Songs of parting are sung. In Bengal it is called bidaay, and in Pakistani Muslim weddings the same moment is the rukhsati.
