Zaffe
The Arab wedding procession with drums, dancers and singing that escorts the couple in.
Also: zaffa, zaffah, zeffa
The zaffe is a lively entrance of the bride and groom at an Arab wedding, found in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt. A band of drummers, pipers or horn players and dancers, often with swords, candles or trays, leads the couple and guests into the hall, singing and clapping. In Egypt the term is zaffa and in Lebanon the zaffe often features the dabke dancers. The word is of Arabic origin, and the transliteration varies. Women ululate, with the zaghrouta, as the procession passes.
