Also: kalamatianos
Kalamatiano is a folk dance of Greece, named for the city of Kalamata, danced in a line or open circle in a rhythm of seven beats, usually counted as three short and then long. The leader holds a handkerchief in the hand and may improvise, while the others follow. It is one of the best-known dances at Greek weddings and festivals, along with the syrtos and the zeibekiko. The newlyweds often lead the first dance after the ceremony, with family and friends joining.
